1. Qualifying Requirements for Admission to the Panel of Mediator
1.1 An applicant must be:
- an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore with a valid practising certificate and must maintain a valid practising certificate for the duration of his / her appointment on the Panel of Mediators; and
- a mediator accredited by or appointed to the panel of a designated mediation service provider or accredited or certified under an approved certification scheme, in accordance with the Mediation Act 2017.
2. Panel of Mediators
2.1 The LSMS shall comprise a Panel of Mediators consisting of 2 categories of mediators, namely:
- Senior Mediators; and
- Associate Mediators.
2.2 The Panel of Mediators shall, at all material times, have in force a valid practising certificate. The LSMS retains the right to remove from the panel any mediator who does not have a valid practising certificate during the tenure of his / her appointment.
3. Appointment of Mediators
Senior Mediators
3.1 For appointment of Senior Mediators, the Selections Committee may consider applicants who possess the following qualifying requirements.
- an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore with a minimum aggregate of 15 years PQE and holds a valid practising certificate; and
- a SIMI Certified Mediator or a Principal Mediator or equivalent level of a designated mediation service provider or has acquired sufficient mediation experience comparable to a SIMI Certified Mediator.
Associate Mediators
3.2 For appointment of Associate Mediators, the Selections Committee may consider applicants who possess the following qualifying requirements:
- an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore with a minimum aggregate of 5 years PQE and holds a valid practising certificate; and
- a mediator who —
- has completed and passed a SIMI Registered Training Program and is accredited by a designated mediation service provider; or
- has attained at least SIMI Accredited Mediator Level 1; or
- has undergone a mediation training course of a minimum duration of 40 hours or such other mediation training as may be acceptable to the Selections Committee.
